Maccauvlei Golf Club started in 1926. Only an hour’s drive from Johannesburg. Lovely country atmosphere.
Established in 1926. The stature of the club can be gauged from the fact that the Governor-General of South Africa was its first patron, and the list of members included may leading business and political figures of the day.
The widespread popularity of the course at that time has given it connections with may famous people and landmarks – for example, few monthly committee meetings were held in the original Carlton Hotel. Its fame rapidly spread beyond South Africa’s borders and this was reflected both by a surprisingly large overseas membership and the fact that in 1927 the Club hosted a visit from a British Golf team. The group, all members of the Royal and St. Andrews, arrived at the Club in December of that year on the first official visit by such a team from overseas to this country.
